Basic Amigurumi Doll

I have used this basic pattern to make several characters like Geralt of Rivia, Paul Stanley (aka Star Child), and my little green alien. It's easy and can be adapted in a million ways.

The Pattern:

What you need:

Hook: D/3 - 3.25mm

Yarn: Light worsted or DK in desired colors

Poly-fil

Stitch markers

4.5 mm safety eyes

Embroidery floss/needle


Abbreviations:

mr - Magic ring

sc - Single crochet

inc - Include (2 sc in same stitch)

dec - Decrease (Stitch 2 together)

rnd - Round


Legs (Make 2)

Rnd 1: With desired pant/leg color - 6 sc into mr (6)

Rnd 2 - 10: (Use a stitch marker to keep track of rows) sc in every stitch (6)

  • slst in next st. Break yarn

  • Stuff legs with Poly-fil

Variation:

Make the first 2 rows a different color than the rest to give your doll shoes.

Body and Head:

Rnd 1: Hold the legs together and join them by making a sc in the stitch where they touch in the middle. Work a sc in each stitch around to make an oval. (11)

Rnd 2: inc, 11 sc (12)


Rnd 3 - inc, 5 sc, inc, 5 sc (14)


Rnd 4 - 7: sc in each st (14)

Rnd 8: dec, 5 sc, dec, 5 sc (12)

  • Start stuffing the body

Rnd 9: dec 6 (6)

  • Change to desired head color

Rnd 10: inc 6 (12)

Rnd 11: sc, inc - 6 times (18)


Rnd 12 - 15: sc in each st (18)


Rnd 16: sc, dec - 6 times (12)

  • Insert safety eyes between rnds 13 and 14 about 3 stitches apart

  • Embroider a mouth

  • Stuff the head

Rnd 17: dec 6 times (6)

  • Break yarn, close hole, and weave in ends

Arms (Make 2):

Rnd 1: With same color used for head, make 5 sc into mr (5)


Rnd 2: sc in each st (5)

  • Change to sleeve color

Rnd 3 - 8: sc in each st

  • Leave a long tail for sewing, break yarn

  • Stuff arms

  • Sew the arms to the body at the point where the head meets the body

Hair:

Use a credit card or a piece of cardboard to cut lengths of yarn. Using your hook, loop pieces of yarn into the back of the head. Once you have all the hair in place, cut or style in desired fashion.
