Easy Scrap Yarn Basket

This is a simple basket you can make using yarn you already have (or new yarn if you wish). If you're like me, you have tons of yarn sitting around. This basket is a great stash buster. I have made several of these baskets and use them to contain dog toys, laundry, craft/project supplies, etc.

The Pattern

What you need:

• Hook: J/10 - 6.00 mm

• Yarn: You will crochet with 2 (or more) strands together. You will need 4 - 5 partially used skeins or 2 -3 full skeins of worsted weight yarn. I have even used 2 - 3 strands of sport weight or fingering weight. The amount will depend on how big you want your basket to be.

• Stitch markers

Dimensions:

12" in diameter and 12" tall.

Worked in a spiral

Abbreviations:

• mr - Magic ring

• st - Stitch

• sc - Single crochet

• blo - Back loop only

• slst - Slipstitch

• Rnd - Round

Instructions:

Base:

1. Rnd 1: Using 2 strands together make 6 sc into mr (6)

2. Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (12) (Use a stitch marker to keep track of rounds)

3. Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (18)

4. Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (24)

5. Rnd 5: *3 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (30)

6. Rnd 6: *4 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (36)

7. Rnd 7: *5 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (42)

8. Rnd 8: *6 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (48)

9. Rnd 9: *7 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (54)

10. Rnd 10: *8 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (60)

11. Rnd 11: *9 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (66)

12. Rnd 12: *10 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (72)

13. Rnd 13: *11 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (78)

14. Rnd 14: *12 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (84)

15. Rnd 15: *13 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (90)

16. Rnd 16: *14 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (96)

17. Rnd 17: *15 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (102)

18. Rnd 18: *16 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (108)

19. Rnd 19: *17 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (114)

20. Rnd 20: *18 sc, 2 sc into next st. Repeat from * to end (120)

21. Rnd 21: sc in each st blo (120)

22. Rnd 22 - 42: sc in each st (120)

When you basket is as tall as you'd like, simply slst in the next st, tie off yarn, and weave in the end.

To make your basket smaller, stop at any point while making the base and skip to Rnd 21.
